Report #2

The school is comprised of 89 staff members, 59 of whom are classroom teachers. The remaining staff members include administration, guidance, clerical, paraprofessionals, cafeteria, and maintenance staff. The school has seven grade levels, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. There is an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) department, which services students in grades pre-K thru fifth. The pre-K class is for qualified ESE students only. This school follows the Inclusion Model and ESE teachers go into the classroom to provide these services to students. The English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) department provides support services for ESOL students. The school received a grant to create a Rosetta Stone Lab, which provides ESOL students approximately two hours of individualized, interactive, language lessons on the computers, in addition to the services provded by ESOL teachers.

The principal and assistant principal are the administrative team. The student support team is comprised of the guidance counselor, school psychologist, ESE department chair, supervisor, behavior specialist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, five ESE teachers, four ESE paraprofessionals, four ESOL paraprofessionals, and two speech/language teachers. Some of these staff members are responsible for students at other schools as well; such as, the school psychology, occupational therapist, physical therapist and behavior specialist. Each grade group has a team leader whom attends leadership meetings every other week to relay communication to grade group members.

The school district is divided into three zones within our county. Students attend schools within their zone as they progress from kindergarten thru high school. The students who attend our school come from a variety of public and private pre-K programs in our area. After students finish fifth grade at our school they are eligible to attend one of the middle schools or K-8 schools within our zone.

Shared Beliefs
1. All students can learn.
2. Al adults in the school should be concerned about student learning and model the same.
3. School should be a caring environment for all.
4. School should be enjoyable.
5. Students' processing time should be respected.
6. Work should be of interest and relevance to all students.

The school where I am completing my internship is an A school. The staff have worked very hard to create a safe and supportive learning environment for students, while providing them with quality work. It is obvious that the students enjoy learning and are happy at school, by the way they interact. The staff is supportive of one another and their first priority is students.

Lori, both of your reports were well done and provided indepth info about your school community. I know since you work at your school this probably seemed like busy work. But one of these days you may become a media specialist in a different school and becoming familiar with your school community is very important.

Nicely done. Dr. Lee
